- IPVanish adds a filter in the app to identify and connect to RAM servers only
- After an initial soft launch, the tool is now available on all supported applications.
- RAM-only servers run on volatile memory, erasing all data on reboot
IPVanish just made it easier to take care of your online privacy by introducing a dedicated RAM-only filter across all apps.
The tool lets you easily find and connect to its growing network of RAM-only servers. By enabling the filter, you can browse available connection points by country, region, and city, instantly spotting which clusters have already been upgraded to diskless infrastructure. This provides an immediate and transparent way to make informed choices about your digital privacy.
IPVanish has been quietly releasing interface updates for its apps since September. However, with its latest rollout, the new filter tool is now officially available on all supported apps, including Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Android TV.
What are RAM-only servers and why are they important?
If you’re not familiar with what VPN servers are or how they work, the move to RAM-only technology looks to be a significant privacy improvement.
Traditional servers depend on hard disk drives (HDD) to function. Although reputable vendors secure these drives with full disk encryption and strict no-logging policies, the physical storage still exists.
RAM-only serverson the other hand, runs entirely on volatile memory. This means that every time the server is restarted or powered off, all data is erased instantly and permanently.
According to the IPVanish blog, these specialized servers “eliminate even the theoretical risk of data persistence.” It acts as a safety net; Even in the worst case scenario where a server is physically seized by authorities or compromised, there should be no data left to recover.
Beyond the obvious privacy benefits, the company notes that ditching hard drives also brings notable performance benefits. IPVanish claims the upgraded servers offer “faster processing, improved reliability, and smoother VPN connections for streaming, gaming, and everyday browsing.”
The Road to a Completely Diskless Network
This new app filter is part of a much larger infrastructure overhaul. As TechRadar previously reported, IPVanish officially took its first steps toward diskless networking earlier this year, joining heavyweights like NordVPN and ExpressVPN in adopting the technology.
Although the network is not yet completely diskless, the vendor is aggressively upgrading its hardware. IPVanish has confirmed that it is moving to an “all-RAM global network by 2027.”
As the company continues to expand its RAM-only coverage in North America, Europe, South America, and the Asia-Pacific region throughout 2026, these newly upgraded cities will automatically appear under the in-app filter.
For now, the new toggle gives you real-time transparency into exactly where these ultra-secure connections are available today.
