This new wireless gaming headset from RIG delivers “studio-quality” sound and has been “customized for first-person shooters.”

Gaming accessories brand RIG has unveiled a new wireless gaming headset, the R8 Specter Pro. Designed to deliver “studio-quality” audio, the company says the headset has been “specifically designed for competitive gaming” and delivers audio “customized for first-person shooters” and enhances key in-game audio cues.

Two models are available: the R8 Specter Pro HX and the R8 Specter Pro HS. The HX variant is for Xbox, while the HS version is a licensed PlayStation accessory. In addition to their respective consoles, both models work with PC, Nintendo Switch 2 and mobile.

Both feature 40mm graphene drivers and a battery life of over 60 hours. They also come with an RGB illuminated charging dock and include a 16-bit/48kHz resolution cardioid boom microphone.

The HX supports Dolby Atmos 3D audio and includes a lifetime subscription to the Dolby Access app, while the HS is tuned for PlayStation’s Tempest 3D Audio on compatible platforms.

Although the default sound profile was designed for competitive online gaming, you can change the sound in the compatible RIG Navigator mobile app.

Like the recently released RIG R5 Max HD, the R8 Specter Pro can be customized with magnetic ear cushions and modified earcup plates thanks to the brand’s “Snap+Lock” system.

Overall, they seem like decent packages, especially if the audio quality is up to par. That said, at the mid-range price of $179.99 (that’s around £130 / AU$250), they have some pretty tough competition in some of the best wireless gaming headsets like the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 and Logitech Astro A20 X.
