Charlie Sheen gives an update on his relationship with his old friend Jon Cryer

Charlie Sheen admitted he still hasn’t contacted his Two and a half men his co-star Jon Cryer, despite repeatedly stating his intention, and playfully took a jab at his old friend for being “a little grumpy” more than a decade after their famous argument.

Sheen was speaking at a For your consideration event for the Netflix documentary aka Charlie Sheen in Los Angeles on April 22, where he was asked if he would reconnect with Cryer, who also appeared in the film.

“Every time this happens, I say I’m going [reach out to him] and I never do it,” he said PEOPLE. “I don’t like to bother people. But I think Jon would be open to it. Jon is a lovely man and very talented.”

During the panel portion of the evening, Sheen couldn’t resist a slight remark about Cryer’s absence.

“Jon’s not here tonight, is he? No, he’s a little grumpy like a decade and a half later. I’m like, ‘Dude, what the fuck? I’m over it. What do we do, Jon?'”

He quickly softened, expressing his sincere gratitude to everyone who agreed to participate.

“They could have easily said, ‘Fuck you. I don’t care. I’ve been through it. I don’t need to talk about it again.’ And I would have said, “Okay, that’s good. » But they didn’t and they intervened. »

Sheen’s documentary and memoir The book of brilliance both landed in the same week in September 2025, with Sheen describing the experience of finally documenting his story as a relief.

“It’s documented, and I think it’s beautifully told, visually and hopefully decently. There are things in the book that aren’t in the document and vice versa, because there are things that I haven’t been able to capture with the written word that [director Andrew Renzi] visually, because certain things, you just have to see them to feel them.”

He also remembers being uncertain about his participation at first, until Renzi stated his case.

“He said, ‘Because you have a story that’s unlike anyone who’s ever worked in the industry, but also outside of it.’ And then he made a list of things, and I was like, okay, OK.”

Renzi said it clearly: “There’s only one Charlie Sheen…and there just aren’t many people who would have had the life he had and would want to talk about it, or who are alive to talk about it.”

Sheen, who has been sober for eight years, said he would not have undertaken any of these projects while he was still in the grip of his addiction.

“I think there was always a happy ending attached to it, no matter where the story was going.”
