Tom Hanks was spotted playing the role of a proud father at the Stagecoach Music Festival this weekend, where he was seen performing with his son Chet’s band.
The two-time Oscar winner joined the crowd at the Toyota Music Den on Saturday, April 25, to support Chet’s musical duo, Something in the West.
Fans were stunned to see the 69-year-old Hollywood legend dressed casually in a beige jacket, jeans and hat, enthusiastically singing along to the band’s track. You better run.
The performance was of particular importance since the song You better run is closely linked to one of Tom’s most iconic roles.
Last year, Something in the West released a music video for the track which paid an extended tribute to Forrest Gump.
The video showed Chet, 35, sitting on the famous park bench with a box of chocolates and the band playing on a shrimp boat named Jenny.
Most notably, the elder Hanks made an appearance in the video, appearing on the bench alongside his son to observe Chet’s familiar Gump-inspired outfit.
Festival-goers were understandably shocked to find themselves next to a cinema icon in the middle of a country music festival.
Keren Ashri, who captured video of the moment, admitted she “freaked out” after noticing the actor ten minutes into filming.
She told reporters that Tom seemed to really enjoy watching his son play.
After the show ended, the Philadelphia star stayed behind to mingle with the crowd, with onlookers describing him as “very nice and courteous” as he took time to pose for photos with his fans.
Chet, who currently stars in the Netflix series Running pointis the son of Tom and his longtime wife, actress Rita Wilson.
While Chet has often made headlines for his own ventures, this public show of support from his father suggests a strong bond between the two men.
By showing up at a major event like Stagecoach, Tom Hanks proved that despite his worldwide fame, he’s more than happy to blend into the festival crowd to cheer on his family from the front row.
