Allyson Felix, the most decorated track and field Olympian of all time, wants one more chance to add more medals to her illustrious career.
The 40-year-old told Time she will be making her comeback in hopes of competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, which will be held in her hometown.
“A lot of us were told not to do big and bold things,” Felix told the outlet about his comeback. “You know, at this age, I should probably stay home and take care of my kids, do all that stuff. And why not? Let’s turn things around. Let’s go after this thing. Let’s be vulnerable.”

Felix will be 42 when the Olympics begin in Los Angeles, but the winner of 11 Olympic medals, including seven gold, at five different Games, has seen others over 40 do what many consider impossible. Tom Brady, LeBron James and Lindsey Vonn were mentioned by Felix during the interview.
She wants to break the age barrier, believing she can get one last chance at Olympic glory.

If Felix were to make the Olympic team at age 42, she would be the first American sprinter to reach the Games at age 40. And given that her specialty is sprinting, that will be quite a feat considering the talent pool she will be up against.
Sha’Carri Richardson, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Gabby Thomas and more will be fighting for a spot on the Olympic team in 2028. But that clearly won’t deter Felix, who many of these women have likely looked up to since she burst onto the Olympic stage in Athens in 2004.

Felix won silver that year in the 200 meter sprint. Then, at the 2008 Beijing Games, she won gold with the 4×400-meter relay team, while also taking silver in the 200-meter sprint.
Felix reached the peak of his running power at the London Games, winning gold in the 200 meters, 4×100 meters relay and 4×400 meters relay. She was part of the team in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo before announcing her retirement after the 2022 athletics season.
Since then, Felix has been inducted into the United States Olympic and Paralympic Hall of Fame in 2025, while serving on the International Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission as well as the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee Board of Directors.
So even though Felix is very involved in the Games for the United States, she wants to get back on the track.

If Felix ultimately doesn’t make the team, she said she will be at the 2028 Los Angeles Games with her children to cheer on those representing the Stars and Stripes.
