Zaragoza’s Argentine goalkeeper Esteban Andrada has been suspended for 12 matches for hitting an opponent during a second division soccer match in Spain over the weekend.
Andrada was also suspended for an additional match for a red card shown to him before the punch.
The match was in its final minutes when Andrada pushed Huesca defender Jorge Pulido to the ground as he approached the Argentine goalkeeper. After the referee gave Andrada a second yellow card for the push, the goalkeeper ran after Pulido and hit him in the face with a powerful punch from the right.
Pulido fell to the ground and a fight between players and staff members from both teams ensued. Andrada later apologized for his actions.
Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jimenez was also sent off for hitting Andrada during the melee. Jiménez was suspended four matches for the punch.
Suspensions may be appealed.
A Rayo player suspended
Rayo Vallecano player Isi Palazon has been suspended for a total of seven matches for his harsh complaints against the referee during his team’s 3-3 draw against Real Sociedad on Sunday.
He had already been substituted and sent off for complaining about the bench in the final minutes.
Rayo were denied a goal after video review, instead awarding a penalty to Sociedad for an incident earlier in the build-up.
