The CJP forms committees to fill key positions

The apex judge formed separate committees comprising senior judges and the Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) to oversee appointments to key posts in the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP), Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) and the Supreme Judicial Power. Council (SJC).

According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court on Thursday, the selection committee for the LJCP secretary is headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and includes Justice Ayesha Malik and Justice Shahid Waheed.

The panel will interview candidates nominated by provincial chief secretaries.

Similarly, the selection committee for JCP secretary consists of Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and the AGP.

A committee comprising Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar and AGP will interview candidates for the post of SJC secretary.

These committees will interview candidates, including serving and retired district and session judges, nominated by the chief justices of the five high courts and the chief secretaries of the provinces.

The aim of creating these committees is to “ensure transparency and meritocracy in appointments”.
