- Strauss Zelnick, the boss of Take-Two Interactive, declares Grand Theft Auto 6 will not come to PC from day one, because the console is Rockstar Games’ priority
- Zelnick says Rockstar wants to serve the ‘core consumer’ on consoles
- A later launch on PC could encourage consumers to purchase the game again.
Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto 6 is fast approaching, scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, and one platform has been completely ruled out from day one.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick actually confirmed that GTA6 will not come to PC at launch, with Rockstar prioritizing consoles. This debunks some rumors suggesting that Rockstar was perhaps preparing for a surprise PC release sooner than expected.
Rockstar abandoning PC after the fact shouldn’t be a huge surprise, as it’s the trend it’s been following for years. Past games including GTA4, GTA 5And Red Dead Redemption 2 all came to PC after the launch of a console.

When asked why GTA6 won’t launch immediately on PC, Zelnick said: “Rockstar always starts on console because I think when it comes to a release like that, you’re judged by the core,” reinforcing the idea that console gamers are the primary audience.
“It’s like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn’t there, if they’re not served first and best, you’re kind of not reaching your other consumers.”
There’s no doubt that consoles are easier for Rockstar Games to optimize. However, I suspect that’s only half the reason why GTA6 will not launch on PC on day one.
The other half is that Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games are fully aware that there are more sales on the table if they can get consumers to double down and buy the game again once the PC version launches.
It’s a smart business decision, but it’s also frustrating for us PC gamers. Hopefully the wait won’t be too long.
