Stop the presses – the Boston Red Sox have won two games in a row. That’s correct. One more win today, and it will be what we call a “winning streak”. Watch out, MLB!
Of course, Boston’s latest win over the Detroit Tigers didn’t come without some serious drama. It’s 2026. There’s still drama in Boston this year, it seems.
The Sox completely beat Detroit, 10-3, Tuesday night in a game that had laughs from the start. Boston jumped on Tigers pitcher Framber Valdez all night, hitting three home runs and hitting him for 10 runs in three-plus innings. Yeah.

It was in Valdez’s fourth and final round that things really went wrong. He gave up a mammoth home run to Wilson Contreras to start the frame, then another to Wiyer Abreu. The third batter of the inning, Trevor Story, was then belted in the back on Valdez’s first pitch.
And that’s when things took a turn for the worse:
NESN Stand Rips Valdez, Rightfully So
“You can’t get them out, so you throw them at them. What a joke. The only one responsible is hiding in the back,” said NESN analyst Will Middlebrooks.
“It’s weak,” added play-by-play manager Dave O’Brien. “You give up three homers, consecutive shots, and then you drill Trevor Story.”
And just to bring it all home:
“Well, let’s just hope he doesn’t cross his receiver now that he’s angry,” Middlebrooks said.

I mean, just a beating from the Red Sox…and their broadcast team! Finally, this team is showing FIGHT this season. It only took six weeks. Better late than never, I think.

Obviously this was intentional. Valdez tried to play dumb after the match when asked about it, but come on. Stevie Wonder knew he had deliberately cast Trevor Story. This is the oldest trick in the book.
You were rocked all night. You gave up 10 (!!!) races before the fans even reached their seats. Wilson Contreras hit the moon and swung his bat to first.
So, naturally, someone gets hit. That someone was Trevor Story, right in the middle of the numbers in the back. This is pitching 101.
As for the Red Sox broadcast team ripping Valdez apart, I don’t blame them either. Will Middlebrooks is a former great player. He saw everything. He’s not shy at the NESN or WEEI booth, nor should he be. Express what you think! That’s why you’re here.

This is why we want professional athletes to be present on the stand. I want to hear what they think when something like this happens, so I can make sure what I’m thinking is correct.

Now, I didn’t really need that confirmation in this case, but it was still nice to have it.
By the way, the Red Sox never fought back. I would expect that to change today.
