It’s been a long road The Batman Part IIbut filming on the long-awaited DC comic book movie is finally set to begin.
With cameras expected to start rolling in the very near future, director Matt Reeves has further stoked fans’ excitement for The Batman Part IIin October 2027. Indeed, on X/Twitter yesterday (May 7), Reeves revealed the first behind-the-scenes images of The BatmanThe rest of – discover them below:
The footage, which was taken by someone – presumably Reeves himself – watching images on a monitor, shows the Batmobile being driven on a Gotham City highway in wintry conditions.
When will it be? The Batman 2The filming schedule was supposed to begin in early 2026, but was quickly pushed back to mid-2026. With less than 18 months until the film’s sneak release in cinemas around the world, it’s high time to move up a gear.
Will Mr. Freeze be the main villain of The Batman 2?
As expected, this peek behind the curtain sent fans into a frenzy as to who its main antagonist could be.
Indeed, with a snowy Gotham serving as the backdrop for the Robert Pattinson-led film, DC enthusiasts put two and two together and convinced themselves that Mr. Freeze will be its big bad. Just look at some of those who responded to Reeves’ tweet or commented on discussions on the DC Cinematic sub-Reddit and Batman sub-Reddit, for proof.

Interestingly, Reeves discussed the possibility of including Mr. Freeze, real name Victor Fries, in The Batman 2.
Speaking at a press event for The Batman in early 2022 (per Collider), Reeves admitted that there might be a way to introduce a more realistic version of the icy fantasy antagonist into his grounded Batman universe. Reeves even referenced “Heart of Ice,” a fan-favorite episode of Batman: The Animated Series which repositioned Freeze as a tragic figure rather than an outright villain, could serve as inspiration for any story involving Fries.
The big question now is: Will Mr. Freeze be the main enemy Pattinson’s Dark Knight will face?
I’m not so sure. Reeves’ aforementioned comments were made four years ago and, while he is clearly a fan of “Heart of Ice,” there is no indication that The Batman 2 will include it.
“But what about the snowfall in these photos?”, you hear yourself asking. There are many comic book stories featuring the Caped Crusader in freezing conditions that don’t include Freeze, so these images don’t guarantee he’s part of the proceedings.
On top of that, speculation abounds that Marvel mainstay Sebastian Stan will play Harvey Dent/Two-Face in The Batman Part II. If true, Dent could be the main villain of the film, especially if, like his ancestor, The Batman 2 explores the intersection of extreme wealth, white privilege and systemic corruption – themes that have been examined through Dent, Batman and the latter’s civilian alter ego, Bruce Wayne, on the page and screen for decades.
Add to that rumors that The Court of Owls could be the main antagonists in one of next year’s most exciting new films, the possible return of Barry Keoghan’s Joker, and a myriad of other members of Bats’ rogues gallery that could show up, and Mr. Freeze could continue to be *ahem* left out. If he is, the wait for his next appearance on the big screen after that in 1997 Batman and Robin will continue.
