Rory McIlroy challenged LIV golfers; why wouldn’t they want to return to play on the PGA Tour amid growing doubts about LIV Golf.
Masters champion McIlroy lashed out, saying: “If you don’t want to play here, I think that says a lot about you.”
Speaking on Friday (May 8) at the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow, McIlroy opened up when asked about his reaction to the LIV controversy.
McIlroy said: “It’s a question of whether they want to come back.”
“Obviously, we’ve seen the quotes over the last few days. And, you know, it seems like some guys, though…again, it all depends on what happens to LIV.”
“If this is a scenario where they have the opportunity to come back and play on traditional tours, I think (PGA Tour CEO) Brian Rolapp has said whatever makes this tour stronger, whatever makes the DP World Tour stronger, I think everyone should be open to that.
“It’s just good business practice.”
McIlroy, 37, also looks at LIV’s future survival under different platforms.
“That’s never been the case for me and, look, that doesn’t mean LIV is going away.
They will try to find alternative investments, whatever their form.
McIlroy added: “But when one of the richest sovereign wealth funds in the world thinks you are too expensive for them, that says a lot. »
The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) confirmed last month that it would stop funding the LIV league at the end of this season.
