Pakistan and Qatar on Sunday reiterated their joint commitment to support all ongoing efforts aimed at promoting lasting peace and constructive dialogue in the region, emphasizing their constructive commitment to ensure the success of the ongoing peace efforts.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani made the remarks during a telephone conversation, during which they discussed the developing regional situation and ongoing efforts to promote peace in the region.

Taking his X, Prime Minister Shehbaz said he and the Qatari prime minister reviewed progress regarding peace initiatives aimed at promoting regional stability.

The prime minister said he thanked Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani “for his wise leadership and Qatar’s continued support for Pakistan’s sincere efforts” to advance regional peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy.

The two leaders exchanged views on recent developments and reviewed progress on peace initiatives aimed at promoting regional stability, said a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Prime Minister Shehbaz and the Qatari Prime Minister stressed the importance of constructive engagement by all parties to ensure the success of the ongoing peace efforts, the statement said.

During their conversation, Prime Minister Shehbaz said that he was looking forward to the upcoming visit of the Emir of Qatar to Pakistan.

“The visit of His Highness the Amir would help both sides to further strengthen and expand the enduring partnership between Pakistan and Qatar,” the statement said.

The call comes as part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to help ease tensions in the Middle East, sparked by the US-Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28.

Islamabad became a key mediator between Tehran and Washington during and after the six-week conflict, which ended April 8 with a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan.

After brokering the ceasefire, Islamabad hosted delegations from the United States and Iran for peace talks on April 10. However, negotiations ultimately did not result in an agreement for a permanent end to the war.

Despite the impasse between Washington and Tehran, Pakistan has continued its diplomatic engagement with both sides in a bid to bring them back to the negotiating table.

A journalist for a French channel LCIMargot Haddad said on Saturday that US President Donald Trump told her in a brief interview that he still hoped to know “very soon” Iran’s response to Washington’s latest peace deal proposal.

The day before, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry had declared that the American proposal was still “under examination”.
