Meghan Markle has been separated from her father Thomas Markle for seven years but had their very first correspondence late last year following his serious health problem.
The Duchess of Sussex had sent a handwritten letter to her father, who was recovering from his life-saving leg amputation in a hospital in the Philippines. The retired Hollywood lighting director is now back in the United States to continue receiving medical treatment, raising hopes that father and daughter can reunite.
Although Thomas has expressed his wish to finally meet his daughter and grandchildren as well as Prince Harry, it is unlikely that this meeting will take place. According to royal expert Hugo Vickers, Thomas “must feel extremely disappointed” given the state of his family.
Before Meghan fell out with her father ahead of her marriage to King Charles’ youngest son, it was revealed Harry had never met his father-in-law. Vickers suggested Meghan would have been ashamed.
“I talk about it as a possibility,” he said GB News. “I think she was more likely nervous that he might say something to Prince Harry.”
He explained that Thomas was kind to Meghan when she was growing up.
“If you listen to what he says rather than how his words are reported, you will discover an honest man who must feel extremely disappointed,” he said. “It was actually a member of Prince Harry’s family who suggested she might have been nervous about what he might say.”
It’s possible that Meghan still doesn’t want Harry and his father to meet, which is why she has also avoided any plans to reunite with Thomas Markle.
