- AI Previews in Gmail Make It Easier and Faster to Find Old Emails
Google has confirmed a new update to Gmail’s Gemini-based “Help Me Write” feature that allows AI to better match a user’s personal writing style.
A new “tone and style personalization” feature will analyze a user’s previous emails to mimic how they would normally write, while “subject contextualization” connects the Gmail tool to other Google Workspace apps to extract relevant information with less friction.
With this update, the company hopes that AI-generated drafts will appear less generic and require fewer edits before sending, reducing the time it takes to send an email and allowing employees to spend time on more meaningful and impactful tasks.
Gmail’s AI editor just got better
In a blog post announcing the news, the company said the update was designed to reduce app switching and work with short prompts.
Some of the use cases cited by the company include responding to customer inquiries, sharing documents with colleagues and reporting to management.
Although the feature is primarily marketed for workplace use cases, it is not only available in Google Workspace plans. Besides Business Starter/Standard/Plus and Enterprise Starter/Standard/Plus, it is also rolling out to Google AI Plus/Pro/Ultra and the AI Pro Education add-on.
More broadly, this is just another step in Google’s ongoing process of making Gemini more of a personal assistant.
Just a few weeks ago, the company also announced new AI previews in the Gmail experience to make it easier for users to find information by asking natural language questions, rather than having to filter emails by sender or date.
At the same time, these AI insights have also extended to Google Drive to make it easier to discover information across content.
