Seven dead, 18 injured in KP’s Lakki Marwat blast

Police say the bodies of the dead and injured were shifted to hospital and emergency was imposed at Sarai Naurang Hospital

At least seven people were killed and over 18 others injured in a blast on Tuesday in Sarai Naurang area of ​​Lakki Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), hospital sources said.

According to police, the explosion occurred near the Naurang railway crossing.

Initially, hospital administration officials confirmed five deaths and more than ten injuries, while later reports from hospital sources indicated that the death toll had risen to seven.

Hospital sources said two traffic police officers were among those killed in the blast, while those injured included a woman and children.

Police said the bodies of those killed and injured were being shifted to hospital, while emergency measures were imposed at Sarai Naurang Hospital.

KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi took notice of the blast and sought a report on the incident from the Inspector General of Police.

“The martyrdom of two traffic police officers and five civilians in this incident is deeply tragic,” he said.

The chief minister said the provincial government shared the grief of the families of the victims and would provide all possible assistance. He also asked the authorities to ensure provision of the best possible medical facilities to the injured.

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the blast and expressed deep sadness over the death of innocent people.

In a statement, the governor expressed his sympathy to the families of the victims and said he shared their grief during this difficult time.

He also expressed wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured in the blast and said the increase in terrorist incidents across the province, particularly in the southern districts, was deeply alarming.

He called on the provincial government to take serious and practical measures to uphold the rule of law and ensure lasting peace.

The governor said terrorists involved in shedding the blood of innocents did not deserve any leniency and described them as enemies of peace and humanity in the province.

He added that the sacrifices made by the population of the province, the police and security forces in the fight against terrorism will not be in vain.
