Hansi Flick has expressed his intention to extend his stay at Barcelona after leading the club to the league title.

The German coach said he feels “in the right place” and is already aiming for further success.

Barcelona boss confirms long-term commitment

Flick has confirmed he will extend his contract with Barcelona until 2028 following the club’s league title triumph. The announcement comes shortly after Barca sealed the championship with a 2-0 victory over Real Madrid.

The extension rewards Flick for two successful seasons in Catalonia, where the former Bayern Munich manager oversaw a strong campaign that won domestic silverware and restored club stability.

Flick explains his decision and presents his ambitions

Speaking about the new deal, Flick admitted the situation had developed quickly, but said he was grateful for the club’s confidence.

“Has this been announced? I’m sorry, but I have a lot on my mind,” Flick told reporters.

“I am very grateful to the club for the opportunity to coach until 2028. The club has the right to end it, and so do I.

“We will discuss this option a year later. In recent days it has become clear to me that I am in the right place. Now it is time to continue winning and try to win the Champions League again. I am very grateful to the club for their trust.”

Chasing the 100-point milestone

Despite winning the title by 14 points, Flick is not ready to let his team relax in the final three matches of the season.

Before the trip to Alavés, the coach made it clear that breaking records remained a priority for the Blaugrana.

“The target now is to reach 100 points, and for that we need to win the remaining three matches and play well,” he said.

Locker room leaders and injury battles

Looking back on a season marked by both success and adversity, Flick also praised the leadership qualities of his players.

He specifically highlighted the impact of Gavi and Pedri in upholding the team’s standards.

“We have different types of leaders. There is Gavi, who, since his return to training, has raised the level of our sessions, he is the heart of the team. There is Pedri, a leader with the ball. Eric [Garcia] is too. And the captains, like Frenkie [de Jong]Ronald [Araujo]Raphinha,” Flick explained.

“The first thing we have to do is make people happy. And I’m proud of that, and I told the players because it’s been a difficult season because of injuries.” Flick said. “There were key players who were not available at times, like Lamine [Yamal]Pedri, Raphinha, Frenkie. And it’s amazing the season we’ve had and the way we’ve improved over the last couple of months on offense and defense. We are the ones who have conceded the fewest goals and no one expected that.”
