Balochistan’s eminent literature professor Muhammad Khan, popularly known as Ghamkhwar Hayat, was killed in a targeted attack on the outskirts of Nushki on Saturday.

According to police, unidentified armed assailants opened fire on the professor near Killi Mengal when he was on his way to Quetta.

The attackers fled immediately after the incident. Police arrived at the spot following the report, took the body to Nushki University Hospital and handed it over to the heirs after completing legal formalities. An investigation into the murder has been opened.

Prof. Hayat was an assistant professor at Degree College Nushki. He was widely respected as a distinguished writer, poet, short story writer and translator in the Brahui and Balochi languages.

He is the author of over 15 books and has translated several important literary works and articles into Balochi. However, much of his poetry was composed in the Brahui language.
