The Princess of Wales quietly stood out during a major two-day visit to Italy, marking her first overseas engagement since undergoing cancer treatment in 2024.
Catherine traveled to Reggio Emilia, a city in the north of the country, where she was warmly welcomed by local residents and praised for her grace and personal approach during a series of engagements.
At a lunch on the last day of the visit, Carla Nironi, 86, who worked closely with the founder of Reggio Emilia’s educational approach, praised the princess after meeting her in person.
“When I think about other members of the royal family, I think Catherine is a step ahead of them,” she said.
“If she became queen, she would be the greatest queen in the world. She reminds me of Elizabeth II,” she added.
The trip ended with a more informal and personal visit to Agriturismo Al Vigneto, a rural farm located about an hour outside of town.
There, the princess helped prepare fresh pasta and hosted an intimate lunch to thank locals for their hospitality.
She tasted the dishes and appeared visibly moved by the decor.
“It’s so beautiful here. Thank you for having me. It’s a beautiful view,” she told her hosts at the outdoor gathering overlooking the valley.
