Shehbaz hails Pakistan’s role in US-Iran talks

He says he ‘hopes’ for a second round of direct talks between the US and Iran, leading to lasting peace

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described Pakistan’s role in facilitating the US-Iran dialogue as a “brilliant moment in our history”, saying the evolution of political-military coordination has helped improve Pakistan’s international image.

He made these remarks during an interview with the Sunday Times.

“This is one of the shining moments in our history. Pakistan is recognized throughout the world as an honest broker and a country in which international leaders have complete trust and faith. This is our shining hour, and I feel very proud to be a Pakistani – just like 240 million Pakistanis,” he said in the interview published on Saturday evening.

The prime minister said he was “hopeful” for a second round of direct talks between the United States and Iran, leading to lasting peace.

“Luckily, we were placed in this prestigious position,” he said.

“Fortunately, Iran trusts Pakistan, as does the US administration – as well as the Gulf states – and I am grateful to Presidents Trump and Pezeshkian for accepting our invitation,” he added.

The prime minister stressed that Pakistan’s peace efforts continued, adding that “peace is never won easily.”

“You have to demonstrate patience, sagacity and the ability to make things happen despite the most difficult challenges.

“As we speak, we are still doing our best to ensure that this peace effort results in lasting peace through another session here in Islamabad, and we hope that will happen,” he said.

“Our international image has completely changed thanks to this partnership of our political and military hierarchy.”

The Prime Minister hailed the Chief of Defense Force, Field Marshal Asim Munir, saying: “What we are seeing is team efforts from the political and military leadership. I must recognize that the marshal played a crucial role, which will remain engraved in history. »

He also praised the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who he said “engaged his counterparts and made tireless efforts”.
