Sony PlayStation Plus price hike confirmed: new subscribers will pay more from May 20

Sony has confirmed a price hike for its PlayStation Plus subscription service.

Starting May 20, new subscribers in certain regions will pay higher rates for one-month and three-month plans.

The fee went from $10 to $10.90, while the three-month subscription went from $25 to $27.99.

The increase in costs will primarily affect the Essential subscription package, which is the basic subscription package needed to play online multiplayer games on PS4 and PS5 consoles.

It remains to be seen whether other plans, such as Extra and Premium plans, will see an increase. Sony has not yet commented on this development.

Current subscribers do not have to pay more unless they upgrade their subscription level. However, subscribers in Türkiye and India will see an immediate increase, regardless of their status.

Indeed, this growth comes just six months before the expected launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, a game that is sure to attract millions of new players to the world of online gaming, all of whom require a PlayStation Plus subscription to be able to play GTA Online.
