Investigative agency says case filed against ‘private individual’ for ‘slapping’ citizen
Two FIA officers suspended for altercation with jewelry store owner in Karachi’s Sarafa Bazaar
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) took disciplinary action against two police officers on Tuesday following an incident involving alleged violent behavior at Sarafa Bazaar in Karachi.
The incident took place on May 15 when the FIA raided a jewelry shop in Karachi’s Sarafa Bazaar for suspected cash smuggling. The FIA said its official record indicated that 178 kilograms of silver must have been present in the shop, but only 15 kg of locally branded silver was recovered during the operation.
He alleged that the remaining 163 kg of silver could have been taken away during a disturbance created by traders and shopkeepers in the market.
According to an FIA statement issued today, the Karachi Zonal Director immediately took notice of the incident and ordered legal and departmental action.
As part of this action, Deputy Director Syed Ali Mardan Shah, who was in charge of the anti-corruption circle of FIA Karachi with additional charge of Deputy Director, was suspended from duty and transferred to the headquarters.
Another officer, Deputy Director Rabab Qazi, was transferred from the Anti-Corruption Circle to the FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Circle.
“A complaint was also filed against an individual who was allegedly involved in the slapping of a citizen during the incident,” the FIA said, confirming that a departmental investigation had been opened against all officers and staff present at the scene.
The investigating agency said all aspects of the incident were being investigated in a transparent and impartial manner. FIA Karachi Zone reiterated that abuse of authority, irresponsible conduct and any action contrary to law would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He said the FIA remained committed to transparency, accountability, professional conduct and maintaining public trust while ensuring the rule of law at all levels.
