Imran’s medical examination completed in Adiala and doctors monitor his affected eye
RAWALPINDI:
Islamabad Police on Tuesday stopped KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi from visiting Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where he planned to meet imprisoned PTI founding president Imran Khan.
Afridi, who visited Rawalpindi jail earlier in the day, was accompanied by Imran’s sisters and several PTI workers and leaders.
However, the police stopped the delegation of Chungi No26 in Islamabad from heading towards Adiala jail, despite heated arguments, following which the party leaders staged a sit-in.
Meanwhile, several PTI leaders, including Salman Akram Raja, lawyer Gohar Ali Khan and daughters of Bushra Bibi, reached Adiala jail but were not allowed to meet Imran.
It is pertinent to note that Imran Khan’s visiting hours ended at 4 p.m.
Later, the PTI ended its hours-long sit-in at Chungi No26 late on Tuesday evening.
Afridi, while addressing the media at Peshawar Mor Interchange on Srinagar Expressway, said he had gone to Islamabad peacefully to express solidarity with Imran’s sisters.
He said party activists showed restraint, discipline and responsibility despite repeated obstacles and restrictions.
“It is deeply troubling that the elected chief executive of a province, accompanied by his cabinet, has been prevented from proceeding,” he said, calling the decision incompatible with democratic norms and reflective of a discriminatory approach towards a federating unit.
Imran’s medical visit
A medical examination of Imran was completed on Tuesday at Adiala Prison, with a team of doctors carrying out a follow-up assessment of his affected eye as well as a wider health examination, according to prison sources.
Sources said the medical team, after completing the examination, left the Adiala jail after a visit that lasted nearly one and a half hours.
