- Google Unveils AI-Driven Workplace Tools at I/O 2026
- Talk to your Gmail, Docs and Keep, with Gemini filling in the rest
- Upgraded AI Inbox for Gmail also brings more features to users
Google has unveiled a host of new AI tools and features for enterprise customers, giving its Workspace productivity suite a welcome boost for users around the world.
Although the bulk of announcements at Google I/O 2026 focused on consumer-facing tools and news, there was still enough to satisfy business users, including an improved AI inbox to help cut down on those elusive emails.
But there have also been a number of upgrades to everyday Workspace tools like Docs, allowing users to now interact with their files like never before, using their voice.
Enhanced AI Inbox
Google first unveiled its “AI Inbox” for Gmail in January 2026, integrating Gemini to help manage large and cumbersome email inboxes everywhere, offering tools such as the ability to identify messages or tasks that should be prioritized, based on data such as who you email the most.
Now, users can use custom draft replies, where the AI Inbox quickly generates a draft email to submit for your review, which is useful in situations where a quick response is needed.
Users will also benefit from easier access to their files, with links to the correct Docs, Sheets or Slides file instantly found and displayed alongside your to-do list. Individual tasks can also be quickly marked as complete with just one click, as can rejecting unnecessary suggestions or marking all emails in a given subject as read, speeding up your daily routine.
AI Inbox is currently available to Google AI Ultra subscribers and is now in preview for Google Workspace Enterprise Plus customers.
Talk to me
If you’re looking for a deeper connection with your files, Google Workspace has also introduced a selection of voice-activated features to help you get the information you need.
This includes Gmail Live, a new feature that lets you search your inbox with your voice – useful if you’re in an airport and need to know which gate your flight is at – with the results displayed immediately.
On a similar level, Docs Live will let you dictate a stream of consciousness or brainstorm, then turn your ramblings into a coherent draft.
Users just need to start talking, and Docs Live will spring into action, pulling relevant details from your Gmail, Drive, Chat, and the web, before creating a draft that you can refine further when you have a little more time.
Keep will also benefit from a similar feature, allowing users to quickly take notes or observations while speaking, and Google’s note-taking app will do the rest – ideal for jotting down thoughts after a meeting or jotting down the next great idea when inspiration strikes.
All of these new conversational features in Gmail, Docs and Keep will be rolled out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and previewed to Google Workspace business customers in summer 2026.
Gemini Spark
AI agents are increasingly present in our professional lives, and Google unveiled Gemini Spark at I/O 2026, marking its latest push into the agent space.
Described as “a 24/7 personal AI agent that helps you navigate your digital life,” Gemini Spark is said to mark “a big shift” for the AI platform, meaning that for the first time, instead of just answering questions, it can now act proactively on your behalf.
This could be anything from sending emails, to creating a new calendar invitation, to creating a to-do list for a project, in hopes of helping users save time and reduce stress, no matter where they are.
Gemini Spark in Google Workspace will soon be available in preview for business customers in the Gemini app.
