Security forces kill commander of Fitna al-Khawarij in Balochistan’s Saranan region

Afghan militant commander Basir killed during intelligence operation in Saranan region

Security forces killed key Afghan commander of banned group Fitna al-Khwarij and arrested his Afghan accomplice in a successful operation in Pishin district of Balochistan on Wednesday.

According to security sources, forces traced Commander Basir to Shaban area based on intelligence reports. He was the son of Afghan commander Noorullah, who allegedly planned several attacks against security forces.

The sources said Basir also served as operational commander of infiltration groups attempting to enter through the Shaban region.

The state uses the term Fitna al-Khwarij for terrorists belonging to the banned group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

On February 22, security forces killed a group of five suicide bombers linked to Fitna al-Khwarij in Pishin, who apparently operates under Basir’s supervision.

Basir’s assassination is seen as a major success for security forces in the ongoing fight against militancy.

Under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, operations against terrorist groups are continuing, the sources said.

The National Action Plan Supreme Committee had approved Operation Azm-e-Istehkam in June 2024 to eliminate terrorism and extremism across the country, with the aim of eradicating militancy decisively and comprehensively.
