Gordon Ramsay has been subjected to a social media storm after a video allegedly filmed in one of his London restaurants went viral, showing a dog standing on a pee mat near diners.
The clip, filmed at Ramsay’s Street Pizza restaurant in London and shared on TikTok, quickly spread and sparked a wave of criticism from users who questioned the posted hygiene standards.
“This is a mistake,” wrote one commenter. Another, who identified himself as a dog owner, said it was still a “definite no.”
Several viewers questioned whether the scene constituted a health code violation, while others said they would have left right then and there.
Part of what fueled the outrage was the restaurant’s association with Ramsay himself, whose reputation for exacting standards in cooking made the images even more incongruous.
“I know Gordon Ramsay is probably angry right now,” one user predicted, and he wasn’t far wrong.
Ramsay addressed the controversy directly in comments to TMZpushing back against the way the situation had been described.
“What we saw was the CCTV footage, and in no way did this dog pee or poop,” he said, calling the reaction “over-exaggerated”.
He also clarified that the restaurant’s policy only allows dogs on its outdoor patio, implying that the animal should not have been inside at all.
This clarification did little to completely extinguish the debate.
Some users rallied to Ramsay’s defense, arguing that the reaction had been misdirected.
“Don’t pick on Gordon Ramsay,” one commenter wrote. “Go after the owner who allowed it.”
Others were more relaxed about the matter, suggesting people were taking it too seriously.
But a number of viewers argued that the main issue wasn’t really what the dog was or wasn’t doing, but rather that pets were brought into indoor dining spaces.
For a chef who spent decades building a reputation for precision and cleanliness, it wasn’t the kind of title he would have hoped for.
