An investiture ceremony was held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi to confer military awards to officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army in recognition of their exceptional gallantry in operations and distinguished services rendered to the nation, the Army’s media wing said on Thursday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Defense Force and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir was present as the chief guest and presented awards to the families of martyrs, serving officers and soldiers.

The ISPR said the decorations included 50 Sitara-i-Imtiaz and 12 Tamgha-i-Basalat. The medals awarded posthumously were received with honor by the families of the martyrs.

Paying tribute to the fallen and injured in service, Field Marshal Munir said: “Chouhada And Ghazis remain the enduring pride of the nation. Their honor and sacrifice constitute a sacred trust for every Pakistani. The peace and security of our homeland are due to their supreme sacrifices and unwavering devotion to duty.

He also expressed “his deep admiration for the resilience, dignity and firmness demonstrated by the families of Chouhada», recognizing their “unprecedented sacrifices and their unwavering commitment to the homeland”.

Lauding the operational preparedness and determination of the Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies, Field Marshal Munir praised their continued efforts against terrorism and reiterated that “the fight against terrorism will continue with full national resolve until lasting peace and stability is achieved across the country”, the ISPR added.

Last week, President Asif Ali Zardari conferred 47 military awards on distinguished officers and soldiers to recognize their exceptional bravery, leadership and meritorious services rendered in defense of the country.

Three personnel, including an officer and two jawans who embraced martyrdom in the line of duty, were posthumously awarded the Sitara-i-Basalat for their acts of bravery and sacrifice.

The President also conferred Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) on 44 senior officers of the armed forces. The awards recognize their exceptional leadership and meritorious service.
