What is the difference between an Amber and Silver alert?

For the uninformed, there are established standards for missing a person that help police declare an Amber Alert or Silver Alert.

Amber Alerts are primarily issued for children under the age of 18 who may have been abducted and are in extreme danger.

But for an Amber Alert to be declared, police must have information about the suspect and his automobile.

This is the case for Silver alerts, which mainly concern missing and endangered adults or children. In both cases, the police authorities are the only ones authorized to issue such reports.
