Star Wars is back on the big screen. Indeed, with The Mandalorian and Grogu finally ending the theatrical hiatus of the iconic sci-fi franchise, I suspect many of you will be heading to your local cinema to see what all the fuss is about.
However, if you were turned off by its middling critical reception, read my review of The Mandalorian and Grogu to see what I thought of it, you might decide to save your money and wait for it to come out on Disney+. So when could one of the new 2026 movies debut on streaming?
Do The Mandalorian and Grogu still have a Disney+ release date?
No. The rest of the film The Mandalorian The TV series didn’t arrive in theaters until May 22, so it will be a while before it hits Disney+.
When could this be? I don’t have any inside information, but my best guess is that this will release on one of the top streaming services in early September, with September 2nd being the most likely scenario.
Why then? Typically, Disney releases its first-party films on its main streamer around three months after their theatrical launch. Some have arrived on the service earlier or later than expected, but that’s usually the result of them underperforming at the worldwide box office, or the fact that they’re still making money from ticket sales, so they’re staying in theaters longer.
For The Mandalorian and Grogulet’s assume it lands on Disney+ three months after its theatrical release. That would mean it should be available at home on August 22, right?
Not exactly. You see, new Disney+ movies tend to come out on a Wednesday. This year, August 22 falls on a Saturday, so there is absolutely no chance that the first of many new Star Wars movies and TV shows will launch on that date.
Now it is possible that The Mandalorian and Grogu could fall on Wednesday either side of August 22 – those dates being August 19 and 26. However, I believe Disney will delay its streaming launch until the previously mentioned date of September 2nd. The reason? Labor Day, one of the many holidays celebrated in the United States, will take place this year on Monday, September 7.
While many Americans are expected to enjoy a three-day weekend around this date, freeing The Mandalorian and Grogu the Wednesday before Labor Day weekend makes perfect sense. Those living in the United States will likely have a few free hours at some point over the long weekend, so loading up Disney+ to check out the latest Star Wars movie is something millions of them are sure to do.
And if you don’t live in the US, I’m sure you’ll have some free time the first weekend of September. If so and you’re a Star Wars fan, you’re just as likely to tune into Disney+ to see what all the fuss is about. The Mandalorian and GroguAlso.
How long is The Mandalorian and Grogu?
As you will have already noticed – if you haven’t already skipped to this section, anyway – I said that you will need to allow a few hours to watch. The Mandalorian and Grogu.
This is because its runtime is two hours and 12 minutes, including the end credits crawl. This makes it the fourth shortest Star Wars film of all time, with only the original film trilogy having shorter runtimes.
Do The Mandalorian and Grogu have an end credits scene?
No. Once Din Djarin and Baby Yoda’s latest galactic adventure is over, there’s no mid- and/or post-credits scene to stick with.
Be sure to watch the end credits sequence to appreciate the large number of people who worked on The Mandalorian and Grogu. But if you’re sitting around hoping to get a glimpse into the future of this legendary galaxy far, far away, you’ll be sorely disappointed.
