Lizzo breaks silence on Taylor Swift bashing rumors

Lizzo has hit back at claims she spoke disparagingly about Taylor Swift, calling the accusation false and telling her critics to “grow up.”

The feud began on May 22 when an X user posted a comparison of streaming numbers for Taylor Swift’s latest album. The life of a showgirl alongside Drake’s recent triple release, versus Lizzo’s 2025 mixtape My face hurts from smiling so much.

The post included a clip from Lizzo STFU music video. Lizzo shared it and asked her followers what it was supposed to mean.

When a user responded saying the numbers showed “all that shit you did about Tay finally caught up to you,” Lizzo was having none of it.

“Are you okay?” she replied.

“First of all, I’ve never talked about Taylor Swift – and while we’re on the topic, I’ve never talked about any artist. Just because I mention an artist by name doesn’t mean I’m talking shit – please grow up.”

The irony is that the evidence clearly points the other way when it comes to Lizzo’s feelings toward Swift.

Just days before the trade, on the May 15 episode of Verified GeniusLizzo was promoting her new single SLUT and drew a direct and affectionate comparison to Taylor in the process.

The track features Meredith Brooks’ 1997 hit of the same name, and Lizzo wanted to make sure the original artist received her flowers, a decision she very deliberately framed as channeling Swift’s approach to ownership and credit.

“You know what ‘Taylor’s Version’ looks like?'” she said. “It’s like ‘B*tch (Lizzo’s version)'”

Admiration goes back even further.

During a 2022 appearance on The breakfast clubLizzo jokingly called herself “Black Taylor Swift,” highlighting their shared habit of relying on personal relationships and heartbreak as creative fuel.

“My name is Black Taylor Swift,” she said. “I really am, I’m insignificant.”

She then described how she approaches writing about exes in a way that seems recognizably Swiftian, noting the experience without entirely setting the person’s reputation on fire.

None of this suggests that a woman has any interest in working. And now she says it herself, unequivocally.
