Anmol’s transfer to hospital suspended

Security concerns and stable health prompt prison authorities to postpone SIUT visit

KARACHI:

The planned transfer of alleged ‘cocaine queen’ Anmol alias Pinky to the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) for medical examination was postponed at the last moment on Tuesday, prison authorities confirmed.

According to authorities, Pinky complained of kidney-related discomfort, prompting the prison administration to schedule her medical visit to SIUT for 8 a.m. However, the visit was later canceled.

Sources said the decision to postpone the transfer was taken over security concerns, with authorities calling Pinky a high-profile prisoner facing 23 criminal cases. The jail administration had requested additional police personnel from the Karachi Police to ensure foolproof security measures while moving from the central jail to the hospital.

Earlier, DIG Prisons, Fida Hussain Mastoi had written to AIG Karachi seeking enhanced security cover for the hospital visit of the accused.

Prison officials said that after the postponement, prison doctors conducted a medical examination of Pinky and declared his condition stable. Authorities added that she would only be transferred to hospital if her condition worsened or additional medical intervention was necessary.

According to prison authorities, initial examinations revealed kidney problems, while the accused also suffers from eye and stomach diseases as well as asthma, for which she regularly uses an inhaler.
