Commanders warned of penalties while trying to stop Eagles from scoring in bizarre sequence

The Washington Commanders fumbled the ball away on their third turnover of the NFC Championship against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, and some chaos ensued when Saquon Barkley took the team to the goal line.

Barkley broke free for a 22-yard run on the third play of the drive and brought the Eagles within a yard of adding to their lead.

Jalen Hurts tried to get into the end zone but was stopped. Commanders defensive lineman Jonathan Allen was called for a defensive offside. Then, after being stopped, Washington committed three consecutive penalties to try to stop what he knew was coming.

Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu attempted to jump the play twice in a row. He was called for sanctions for encroachment. Then Allen was called for trespassing. The commanders were then warned that officials could reward the Eagles with a score if they continued to deliberately try to skip the play and earn a penalty.

Hurts kept the Eagles rolling throughout the game. He ran the ball into the end zone three times and threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver AJ Brown earlier in the game.

Barkley had two touchdowns in the first quarter, including a 60-yard scamper.
