Mel C offered a frank and typically self-deprecating take on what it means to date a Brit, and the answer, delivered with laughter, starts with alcohol.
THE Spice girls star, 52, appeared on Cosmopolitan Blind date series where editor Willa Bennett asked him to share the best and worst moments of meeting a Brit.
Sporty Spice didn’t hold back.
“We drink way too much,” she says with a laugh, before quickly adding, while sipping her cocktail: “Hey, you know, chug, chug, chug, just kidding.”
On the other hand, she was just as proud of what her compatriot brought to a relationship.
“Probably our sense of humor,” she said of the best part. “We don’t take ourselves too seriously.”
Coming from the woman who spent years in one of the most conscious pop groups of all time, it’s a lead.
The appearance also gave Mel C the opportunity to talk about her relationship with Australian model Chris Dingwall, who she met on celebrity dating app Raya after dating while she was in London and he in Sydney.
The start of the long distance journey did not put her off.
“Well, he’s definitely not under my feet,” she remembers thinking at the time.
She had planned a DJ tour that would take her to Australia anyway and decided it was worth pursuing. Their first date took place in November 2023.
She described the experience of getting to know someone online before meeting them in person as surprisingly effective.
“Does online dating age me? Because you get to know each other before you meet, right? So, I was like, ‘Oh, I like the sound of this guy.’
But then when I met him, I was like, “Yeah, I really like this guy.” So it was pretty quick.”
When asked about the fastest time she fell in love with someone, her answer was just as quick: “When you wake up the next morning.”
Mel C, from the northwest of England, has a daughter, Scarlett Starr, born in 2009 with her ex Thomas Starr.
She’s kept Scarlett largely out of the public eye, a quieter corner of a life that she, in all other respects, seems very happy to share.
