Yvonne Hudson, one of the teen’s family members, said he fell out of a vehicle and hit his head on a curb. The teen was rushed to the hospital where he suffered severe brain swelling and then placed on life support, the station reported.

“Doctors ran tests to see if he had any other brain activity,” Hudson said. “We don’t want the doctors to abandon his treatment since his heart is beating on its own.”

“The San Antonio Police Department extends its sympathies to the family, friends and loved ones affected by this tragic and preventable incident,” San Antonio Police said in a statement. This serves as an important reminder that public safety is a shared responsibility.

“We encourage everyone celebrating the holiday to obey the rules of the road, stay inside their vehicles and follow the instructions of the officers who are there to keep everyone safe.”
