Recent history: The quarter-finals are a bit of a no-brainer for France, at least in recent years. The French have reached at least the quarterfinals in five of the last seven World Cups, and they have reached the final four of the last seven years, winning the tournament twice. As for Spain, they have only reached the quarterfinals twice in the last seven tournaments, but they won it all in 2010. Brazil has reached at least the quarterfinals in eight consecutive tournaments.
Host nations: Canada has never won or tied a World Cup in two tournament appearances. This will be his third participation in the World Cup. As for Mexico, they have made two quarterfinal appearances all-time (1970 and 1986), and the United States has only made one QF appearance (2002).
