Incumbent Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has secured a spot in the upcoming midterm municipal elections on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
As Bass advances to this year’s Los Angeles runoff, her opponents, Nithya Raman and Spencer Pratt, are battling it out to secure the final spot, CBS reports.
In the mayoral race, only the top two vote-getters will advance to the midterm elections.
For those unfamiliar, California uses a voting system called the top-two primary system.
Only the two candidates with the most votes qualify for the general election, regardless of whether they belong to the same party.
Even though vote counting is still underway, Bass will have to wait a little longer to see who she faces in the runoff.
The runoff election saw a close race as Bass leads by a slim 26% lead, and Raman closes the gap to 25%, while Pratt stands at 33%, according to early UC Berkeley-LA Times polls conducted on May 28.
The Los Angeles primary featured a close race that attracted national attention, coupled with events in 2025 that caused widespread damage in the Palisades and Eaton fires.
Bass announced this race as his final bid for public office.
She served for two decades as a congresswoman and the 43rd mayor of Los Angeles.
Bass remained a veteran lawmaker, serving in the House for 12 years, before being elected to the Los Angeles State Assembly between 2004 and 2010.
