America is getting ready to celebrate National Donut Day, which has a rich 88-year history.
The annual holiday is celebrated on the first Friday of June, and this time it falls on Friday, June 5, 2026.
The first ever National Donut Day was celebrated in Chicago in 1938.
The day was celebrated in honor of the Salvation Army Donut Lassies.
During World War I, a group of women volunteers were sent to France in 1917 to treat wounded soldiers and serve them donuts and coffee.
Since then, the day has been marked by brands offering free and discounted donuts across the United States.
