Three people were injured on Saturday after an explosion caused by a suspected gas leak and a subsequent fire in Rawalpindi’s Muhalla Hukumdad, emergency services said.

According to initial reports, the explosion occurred due to a possible gas leak which caused a fire, causing three burns.

1122 Rescue said two emergency vehicles were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving information about the incident.

Emergency services provided first aid to the injured on site before taking them to hospital. The injured were transferred to Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi for treatment, according to relief sources.

Incidents involving gas cylinders are frequently reported in the city, often attributed to leaks and mishandling.

Earlier this year, three separate gas leaks and fires in different areas of Rawalpindi killed a three-month-old baby and injured four others, including two women.

Following these incidents, the Rawalpindi district administration immediately banned illegal filling of gas cylinders and sale of substandard or defective cylinders in the district.

The deputy commissioner had also ordered a crackdown on illegal gas cylinder agencies and vehicles using cylinder gas, including buses, wagons, Suzuki vans and public transport taxis.

He had further asked the authorities to ensure prompt disposal of complaints regarding gas leaks in the district.
