- Microsoft’s Windows 11 24H2 update continues to affect PC users, with new Bluetooth and webcam issues
- Windows fails to detect webcam and has audio playback issues on Bluetooth audio devices
- The latest versions KB5050009 (24H2) and KB5050021 (23H2) seem to be responsible
It’s no secret that Microsoft’s Windows 11 24H2 has been a major problem for many PC users, with bugs and feature issues present across the board, affecting gamers recently – and now , it seems that a new set of problems has arrived. to cause even more frustration.
As reported Latest version of Windowsthe most recent version 24H2 KB5050009 leaves users with webcams that go undetected and Bluetooth audio devices that no longer work even when connected to a system. I can corroborate this last point, as Windows 11 shows Bluetooth audio devices as connected, but without any audio, leaving headphones and more useless for now.
The latest Windows claims indicate that this audio issue occurs on both KB5050009 (24H2) and KB5050021 (23H2), as well as USB DAC ports not working with the latter.
The only solution to the Bluetooth issue (for now) is to uninstall the recent update, while the webcam issues would require a reinstall of Windows 11. Considering the effort required for both supposed fixes, it might be best to wait until Microsoft fixes the problem with a patch – but who knows if that won’t also introduce new problems.
The biggest problem here is that it can be difficult to diagnose some of the reported issues: there are a multitude of different PC configurations, with different applications installed that could be responsible for certain bugs. In this case, it appears that this is indeed a widespread problem (especially with webcams), with users of Microsoft’s Feedback Hub voicing their complaints.
Alright, time to stick with SteamOS via Bazzite for now…
If the Windows 11 24H2 update breaking multiple games wasn’t bad enough, Bluetooth issues have taken things to a new level of frustration. Since I use Windows 11 primarily for gaming, this has struck me – and audio playback on Bluetooth devices isn’t the only problem I’ve encountered, as the taskbar and quick settings are unresponsive no longer (even after pressing the Windows key), forcing me to restart the system.
This isn’t ideal for gaming or even general use, especially when coupled with random slowdowns and stutters in several games – Ubisoft’s hand was forced to update its Assassin’s Creed games facing constant crashes. It’s already a pain having to deal with PC ports and figuring out what could be the cause of occasional stutters and more, and 24H2 has added to that.
Until these issues are resolved, I feel like I need another OS to run my games. From Bazzite (and Valve’s SteamOS) are much more suited to use on a portable gaming PC, I’d be careful before installing it on a desktop PC – and I’ve only tested Bazzite on the Asus ROG Ally, but if that means I have to use my handheld on my powerful desktop while Microsoft fixes these issues, so be it.
