ISLAMABAD:
The government has proposed a substantial increase in social sector spending in the next fiscal year, earmarking Rs 187.2 billion to support poverty reduction and sustainable development initiatives under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to the budget proposals, Rs70 billion has been allocated for the SDG achievement program aimed at improving the well-being of poor and marginalized communities across the country.
The proposed allocation to the social sector has been increased to Rs 187 billion from Rs 147 billion in the current fiscal year.
A total of Rs78.5 billion has been proposed for the education sector and the Higher Education Commission (HEC). To support underprivileged students across the country, Rs 3 billion has been set aside for the Pakistan Education Endowment Fund to provide scholarships.
