King Charles III sent a letter to President Marcelo to mark Portugal Day, expressing hope that the two nations will collaborate on issues of climate change and the environment.
The monarch’s message, written in Portuguese, was posted online on the website of the British Embassy in Lisbon.
Translated from Portuguese to English, it reads: “Dear Mr. President, My wife and I are delighted to extend to Your Excellency and the Portuguese people our warmest congratulations on the occasion of your National Day.
“I am very happy that our countries share such strong ties and I look forward to further strengthening our friendship.
“It is my hope and strong ambition that our nations can work together to make a positive impact on climate change and environmental issues, which affect us all on a global scale.
“My wife and I have the great pleasure of sending you, and all the Portuguese, our best wishes for the coming year.
