Chris ‘The Bear’ Fallica’s Day 1 Cup Best Bets, Picks and Predictions

NEWYou can now listen to PK Press Club articles!

Bear Bets are real bets that Chris “The Bear” Fallica actually makes.

The World Cup is finally here, and what’s even more exciting is that the United States gets to co-host it right here at home.

It doesn’t get much better than that.

Well, actually the situation might improve slightly if we manage to profit from the action.

Here’s how I’m betting on the first day of the world’s biggest event.

World Cup best bets – Thursday June 11

Mexico vs. South Africa

Mexico are heavy favorites in their opening match against South Africa (Getty Images).

It would be very surprising if Mexico were beaten here, but placing -1200 on Mexico’s double chance is a bit steep. Instead, I will consider the highest-scoring half of the game to be the second half. I think in the first half South Africa will be fresh and there is a possibility of a 0-0 score at half time. However, the second half could be where Azteca’s heat and elevation take over, and we could see some breakdowns – or even a penalty.

Fallica’s choice: Mexico South Africa Second half with the best score (+110)

South Korea vs Czechia

Expect Czech Pavel Šulc to have one eye on goal in his World Cup opener (Getty Images).

This is a huge matchup, as one of these two will likely be Mexico’s runner-up in the group. And who knows, maybe we could even upset El Tri and end up winning the group. This leads me to believe that these teams will go for it, especially since the game will be played later this evening in Guadalajara. Patrik Schick grabs the headlines, but Pavel Šulc has had an excellent domestic season for Lyon, scoring in the playoff final against Denmark. I see him here looking for scoring opportunities. I will get the extra money back on shot attempts (which is different from penalty shootouts, for those new to soccer betting).
