Tom Cruise held a mini-gathering for the screening of Steven Spielberg’s new alien thriller Disclosure day, and brought a rather unusual popcorn bucket for the occasion.
Cruise was joined at the screening by Colin Farrell, his co-star from Minority reportand Dakota Fanning, who played his daughter in War of the Worldsto show their support for Spielberg’s latest film, which hits theaters Friday.
In a social media post after the event, Cruise was smitten.
“Nothing better than a summer movie night at Spielberg in a packed room with friends!” he wrote.
“Thank you Steven for all the hours of joy you gave us at the movies!! It was a great honor and pleasure to have worked with you and to call you my friend. Congratulations to my dear friend Emily and the entire group of artists who created this film. You did superb. We all loved “Disclosure Day”!!”
He also arrived with what appears to be a custom popcorn bucket in the shape of Spielberg’s head, complete with a Disclosure Day cap, a very signature Cruise detail.
Official merchandise for the film includes a 16-inch deer bucket with a cardinal perched on an antler, so Spielberg’s head appears to be a one-of-a-kind creation.
Cruise has an ingrained habit of showing up to support his collaborators.
Last year he made a surprise appearance at a screening of The running man in honor of his Top Gun: Maverick co-star Glen Powell’s lead role.
Next up for Cruise is Excavatora satirical comedy directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, scheduled for release this fall.
This will be his first non-franchise film since Made in the USA in 2017, marking a notable departure after three Mission: Impossible payments and Top Gun: Maverick.
