The chief judge of the High Court of Islamabad, Aamir Farooq, heard the petition concerning the personal doctor of Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI), the founder Imran Khan, his meeting with his wife, and a request for Authorization of telephone calls with her children.
After declarations of the superintendent of Adiala prison, the High Court of Islamabad rejected the request with instructions. Imran Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, and the superintendent of Adiala prison, Ghafoor Anjum, appeared in court.
The chief judge asked the Superintendent of Adiala prison regarding the installations provided to the petitioner, to whom the Superintendent replied that all the facilities were provided in category B, including television, newspapers and a personal cook.
Adiala prison superintendent also said that weekly visits had been authorized, but they had also made three to four visits facilitated. Before the trouble, Bushra Bibi (Imran Khan’s wife) was authorized to meet him, and after the conviction, they continued to facilitate meetings.
The chief judge has inquired about the request to authorize telephone calls with his children, to which the superintendent of Adiala prison replied that they could not facilitate international calls because there were 8,000 Prisoners.
He explained that other prisoners could contest the court if such a privilege was granted. He also mentioned that the prisoners of 25 foreign countries were in prison and that the granting of these calls could create a precedent.
According to prison rules and government policy, international calls are not allowed. He explained that when prisoners arrive, they receive a code to make phone calls.
The Superintendent also noted that regular meetings were organized, but once the trial, they were postponed. He said there were a lot of people to meet, and only a limited number of visitors were allowed. The chief judge said he did not want to get involved.
Imran Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, argued that private doctors had been allowed to meet him and that Khan had been authorized to read six newspapers, but only two were provided.
The Superintendent replied that Adiala prison health establishments were among the best in Pakistan, doctors providing daily control reports. He also confirmed that Imran Khan could watch 16 television channels and received two newspapers. The court rejected the request for providing prison instructions.
Previously, the IHC ordered the authorities to allow the founding president of the PTI, Imran Khan, to speak with his sons by phone.
Chief judge Aamer Farooq heard the case linked to IMRAN requests for various prison facilities, including access to a personal doctor, meetings with his wife and phone calls with his children.
During the hearing, the court ordered that the wife and political leaders of Khan are authorized to visit him according to the prison rules. In addition, a telephone call with the wires of Imran and medical treatments by his doctor was ordered.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan reiterated his call to the Pakistanis abroad to boycott sending funds, in climbing political tensions while his party, PTI, faces the government.
“Once again, I urge the Pakistanis abroad to continue their boycott from the survey of funds in foreign currency,” said Khan in an article on X. “The sending of money to this government strengthens the very hands that tighten the knot flowing around your neck. “
The call comes as the talks between the government and the PTI, initiated last month, were broken down this week. The impasse followed the PTI’s refusal to participate without judicial commissions to probe the demonstrations on May 9, 2023 and November 26, 2024.
Khan also called for demonstrations on the national level on February 8, marking the controversial elections in 2024 as “Black Day”. PTI alleys the fuel of the elections by the Government of the Guardian and the Pakistan Electoral Commission. The two entities deny complaints.
