Crystal Dynamics stated that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is connected to its Tomb Raider Survivor trilogy in terms of gameplay and storytelling.
In an interview with TechRadar Gaming at Summer Game Fest 2026, game director Raul Siqueira and Experience director Jeff Adams discussed what the studio calls a “reimagining” of the original 1996 game.
While The Legacy of Atlantis may seem different, featuring a new actress for Lara Croft in Alix Wilton Regan, and even though the story came out 30 years ago, Siqueira confirmed that the Survivor the trilogy ties into the upcoming game.
“Absolutely,” Siqueira replied when asked if they were connected, “but I think [because] we worked on the modern trilogy, it helps that a lot of people working on this game actually made the previous one.
“Jeff [Adams] has a very nice way of saying it, that it somehow connects them, that Survivor was Lara’s past, wasn’t it?”
Siqueira said the studio plans The Legacy of Atlantis “like Lara’s future”, where she is “in the prime of her life” and has learned lessons from the events of the Survivor trilogy.
“Everything you saw in the Survivor trilogy helped shape who she is,” he explained. “When she was just starting her career, she didn’t have the confidence to do stunts or anything like that. Lara, in the future, will do that – so when you go from a narrative point of view, there’s a lot of things that we draw from. [the Survivor trilogy]but even on the gameplay side: you have probably seen that the T-Rex has a lot of flavors of [those] high intensity cinematic moments [in the Survivor trilogy].
“I think there is a lot to be done by jumping from Survivor trilogy in terms of gameplay, but also on the narrative side. »
Adams added that they had been asked a similar question before, what if Survivor “counts” in the canon story that Crystal Dynamics tells. He reiterated that “Survivor It’s absolutely Lara’s past, but she’s not beholden to it now.”
“The Lara you find in The Legacy of Atlantis is someone who is not hindered by the past, I suppose.”
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will launch on February 27, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
