The 2026 FIFA World Cup will close the first day on Wednesday with four matches in the United States, Canada and Mexico. England open their tournament against familiar opponents Croatia in Dallas, while Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo takes the field for what could be his final World Cup against DR Congo in Houston. Colombia and Uzbekistan close out a full night of action in Mexico City. Every game is broadcast on FOX or FS1 and streamed live on FOX One.

Portugal vs DR Congo
Player to watch – Cristiano Ronaldo: One of the greatest players of all time will probably start his last World Cup in this match. At 41 years old and 228 caps to his name, Ronaldo is not just nostalgic for this tournament. He is still a remarkably effective striker who has been playing excellent football for Portugal since Martinez arrived in 2023. But in this tournament and this match, expect Ronaldo to play with intensity and desperation, knowing that time is running out.
England v Croatia
Player to Watch – Harry Kane: There are plenty of stars to watch in this match, but Kane is an elite striker who, at 32, is in the best shape of his career. England will be desperate to make a deep run and challenge for this World Cup. These ambitions are entirely linked to Kane, as there is a sharp decline in scoring options after him. Momentum is essential for all attackers and scoring against Croatia will be important to not only win this game but also set the table as contenders this summer.
Ghana vs. Panama
Player to watch – Antoine Sémenyo: Semenyo has been a revelation in the Premier League this season. The London-born winger scored 10 goals in 20 appearances for Bournemouth before joining Manchester City in January. England would love to have Semenyo in their fold for this tournament, but he made his debut for Ghana in 2022. He has become one of the best wingers in the world this season and will be the driving force behind any success for Ghana this summer.
Uzbekistan vs Colombia
Player to watch – Luis Diaz: The Bayern Munich winger is the most talented player on both teams and one of the world’s elite players at his position. He is a complete winger with his speed, dribbling skills and defensive abilities. He is coming off a 2025-26 season in which he scored 26 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga champions. He remains critical of Colombia’s ambitions to qualify for the round of 16.
