Brazilian icon Ronaldo has urged fans to remain patient with teenage sensation Endrick Felipe Moreira de Sousa following his lack of playing time during the Selecao’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Morocco in their 2026 World Cup opener. The legendary striker insisted the 19-year-old was fully prepared for the tournament but had to wait his turn behind in-form alternative attacking options.
Fans Demand Teen Inclusion
Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to leave the Real Madrid starlet on the bench drew heavy criticism from passionate supporters who felt the striker could have unlocked the Moroccan defense. Endrick recently scored a winner against Egypt in a warm-up friendly, leading many to believe he deserved a starring role. However, Ronaldo completely defended the manager’s hierarchy, pointing out that an unexpected injury to midfielder Bruno Guimaraes disrupted Brazil’s planned attacking substitutions late.
Ronaldo explains the offensive hierarchy

Speaking on Resenha de Copa, the legendary 2002 World Cup winner insisted the youngster was on par with his international teammates but needed to respect the squad’s depth.
Ronaldo said: “I’m sure he will get his opportunity. He will come into play at some point, but at the moment he is the third option in attack. There is Igor Thiago, there is Matheus Cunha, and then it is him.
“I think he would have entered the match [against Morocco] if there hadn’t been the substitution, where I think Bruno Guimaraes asked to leave… It’s an important detail. Because Ancelotti was definitely aiming for victory. But listen, he’s ready, forget it, he’s ready.
“He’s competing with other great players. He’s on par with Manchester United’s Matheus Cunha and Igor Thiago was one of England’s best scorers, so we’re well served at the moment.”
The difference in objectives becomes critical
Pressure is mounting on the South American giants to secure maximum points and build crucial momentum following their victory.
He added: “I think this next match will be important for everyone to gain confidence. Obviously winning is very important, but goal difference will be crucial in this match for first place, which will decide first place in the group. So we have to make the most of every opportunity to avoid ending up in difficulty.”
Schedule of crucial upcoming groups

The Seleçao must quickly find their clinical edge before heading to Philadelphia for a second crucial group stage mission against Haiti. Ancelotti’s star-studded side will then complete their initial group commitments by taking on a strong Scotland side in Miami. Securing a resounding victory against Haiti with a good goal margin will be absolutely crucial to Brazil’s chances of topping the group standings and securing a favorable draw.
