Grand Theft Auto 5 fans who are still playing the last gen version can now upgrade to the current gen for free.
Rockstar Games announced the upgrade in a new blog post, confirming that those who own a copy of the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One digital version of GTA 5 can upgrade for free to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S versions, before the next GTA Online update.
This means players will save around $40 compared to if they purchased the game for the first time on current-gen.
“Starting tomorrow, those who own a PS4 version or the Xbox One digital version of Grand Theft Auto 5 will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions at no additional cost and discover the best versions of GTA 5 And GTA Online ahead of the launch of The Kortz Center Heist,” the studio said.

These features have already been available for PC for some time, along with additional PC-only features like ambient occlusion, global illumination, ray-traced shadows and reflections, and support for Nvidia DLSS 3, AMD FSR1, and FSR3.
In case you missed it, Rockstar also officially confirmed that pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 will begin later this month on June 25.
The long-awaited announcement comes via a new trailer, in which the studio revealed the game’s official cover art and shared new artwork that fans can use as wallpaper.
While we finally know when fans will be able to secure their copies before the game launches on November 19, it’s still unclear how many. GTA6 will cost. However, we will find out in the next seven days.
GTA6 will be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X and Series S at launch, with no PC version having been announced yet.
