The latest frustrating bug to hit Windows 11 affects the trusty Recycle Bin, and it was apparently delivered by the latest Patch Tuesday (KB5094126) – although Microsoft says it’s aware of the problem and is working on a fix.

As Neowin reports, the bug means that when you try to delete a file from the Trash, the confirmation dialog shows the internal file name rather than the actual file name. It’s not particularly bad, but it is confusing.

The proper name is displayed in the Recycle Bin itself, and the proper name is used if you decide to restore the file rather than delete it. The alternate internal name is used only on the confirmation dialog screen.

As you can imagine, Reddit users took a dim view of Microsoft’s latest mishap. Many suggest this is the result of code written by the AI, although we have no confirmation of this.

Last year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that up to 30% of the company’s code was written by Microsoft, and that figure is likely higher now. As for the reliability and functionality of this code, he did not specify it.

“This update broke me, I’m so fed up with Win 11 and all the problems that right now I’m installing Linux on my desktop,” one user commented. “Goodbye Microslop!” The Reddit thread also includes reports on many other issues.

Bugs accompanying Windows 11 updates are pretty much normal at this point, and Microsoft often tries to address several reported issues at once – although it has also made progress with substantial upgrades in recent months.
