PM forms committee to examine Telecommunications Reorganization (Amendment) Bill; guides the submission of proposals according to priority

Committee to review telecommunications rights-of-way and private property, as well as housing corporation operations before recommendations

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday constituted a committee to examine the Telecommunications Reorganization (Amendment) Bill.

The committee will be headed by Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar, while the members include Senator Sherry Rehman, Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Federal Minister for Economy Ahad Cheema, Attorney General Mansoor Awan and experts related to the field of law and IT.

The committee, which was constituted to address concerns raised over some of its provisions, will examine the priority framework in Sections 2(qb), 2(ma), 27A and 27B of the Telecommunications Reorganization Amendment Bill.

The commission will examine the right of way for the establishment of telecommunications installations and will deliberate on operations related to the field of private property and housing societies before submitting its recommendations.

The Prime Minister asked the committee to examine the bill on priority and submit its proposals.

Previously, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications clarified that the Rights of Way Bill 2026 would not allow forcible acquisition of private land or unauthorized entry into citizens’ private properties.

According to the ministry, landowners would retain the full right to raise objections, negotiate terms and demand appropriate compensation before work is carried out on their land.

No telecommunications company would be allowed to enter private property without the owner’s consent or without meeting all legal requirements.
