A motorcyclist accused of committing a lewd act after spotting women inside a bus on Rashid Minhas Road in Karachi has been arrested, police said.
According to police, the incident took place on June 19 and was recorded by citizens on their cell phones before the footage went viral on social media.
Police said the suspect, identified as Arsalan, 45, allegedly planned to conceal his identity by wearing a mask and hiding his motorcycle’s license plate before carrying out the act.
After the video surfaced online, police launched a search operation and circulated the images of the suspect among local informants while examining CCTV footage from various locations.
Investigators traced the suspect’s movements from Rashid Minhas Road to Federal Zone B before arresting him in Jauharabad area of Karachi.
Police said the suspect, a resident of Jauharabad, was arrested during a search at his residence and transferred to Jauharabad police station.
The authorities also filed a complaint against him and opened an official investigation.
After his arrest, police released a video statement in which the suspect admitted his actions and apologized. However, investigators said the apology had no legal value.
Police said CCTV footage from the scene was being collected and all available evidence was being gathered to ensure the suspect would face legal action and receive the maximum punishment under the law.
